2010 Tamworth Country Music Festival

Thursday 14^th January, 2010: January in Tamworth is one of magnitude.  The Tamworth Country Music Festival is the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere, is recognised as one of the world’s top ten music festivals and is home to the Big Golden Guitar.

The population of Tamworth doubles in size and country music fans filter in from literally all over Australia and the world to take part in this exhilarating event.

This year marks the 38^th Country Music Awards of Australia and will be held at the Jayco Country Theatre on Saturday 23^rd January.  This prestigious event includes a special red carpet parade and throughout the night Golden Guitars are awarded to those who have excelled in the Australian country music industry.  Australian country music icon Slim Dusty, leads the tally with 37 Golden Guitars to his name.

Annual records in various events are aimed for including the World’s Longest Line Dance and in 2009 a new record was created as 3,392 boot scooters took to dancing along Peel Street , the biggest in three years.  Be sure to be there this year on Saturday 23^rd January, 2010 from 8am.

Last year also saw the largest Tamworth Country Music Cavalcade in five years with 72 floats.  The Cavalcade will follow on from the line dancing on Saturday 23^rd January 2010 from 9am.

The Big Golden Guitar is the most filmed, snapped and focused icon in the Tamworth region during the Festival. The Big Golden Guitar is a 12-metre high fiberglass and steel-framed replica of the country music industry’s golden award and was opened by Slim Dusty in 1988.

More than 600 musicians register to busk along the Busker’s Boulevard in Peel St, Tamworth , more than 80 different venues host Festival events and 70% of the 2,500 events.

The 2010 Tamworth Country Music Festival will be on from Friday 15^th – Sunday 24^th January.
